Saw this tonight... a really interesting look into the working/romantic lives of NYC women in the late 1950s. Very eye-opening, really irritating at times, but still worth watching. All in all though, I'd have to say the book by Rona Jaffe is much edgier and more honest!

Here's the movie I was talking about, Shiwani. I want to see it so bad!

I just had a thought... we should totally have a movie night and see this when I finish the book.

Good plan. I was just thinking last night that we need to re-schedule our heretofore canceled get-together. It's a quick read, so just lemme know!

I have a gift certificate to B&N for my birthday... So tell me about this book? Good?

I'm sure I've told you about it before. You will totally appreciate it. It's at moments very poetic and philosophical and at others you're just so thankful you didn't have to live back then as a basically trapped thinking woman. It is like a historical document from the 50s from a first hand source, but a rare one...a woman who actually wants a career and succeeds, but also questions the alternative that everyone else is choosing. Very well written and beautiful character development. Loved it!!! You will see parts of yourself in two of the characters. Trust me!

Agreed! The women are far more complicated characters in the book. In the movie they're so waiting-by-the-phone -- that's a new adjective they inspired me to create.
