"Wubi is an unofficial Ubuntu installer for Windows users that will bring you into the Linux world with a few clicks."
This is a pretty interesting idea - it installs a disk image file on to your windows partition, and edits your windows boot manager. Then when you reboot, you'll see a new entry in your Windows boot manager for Ubuntu, click it and it'll load it from that disk image file and store stuff in there too. Other than that image file, nothing else is touched (unless you want it to be). Great for those who want something that stores data over reboots, but have no idea about partitions. Thumbs up!

This tutorial shows how you can set up an Ubuntu Studio 8.04 desktop that is a full-fledged replacement for a Windows desktop, i.e. that has all the software that people need to do the things they do on their Windows desktops. The advantages are clear: you get a secure system without DRM restrictions that works even on old hardware, and the best thing is: all software comes free of charge.
