    He also sells a book. I've been getting his word.a.day for a few months, now, having responded to an ad at the top of my gmail. About half the words I didn't know. Also check out FreeRice.com - I cheat and use an online dictionary to keep the word level high.
    I suppose he values his subscriptions as what he, himself, is worth to the average viewer - how much have you contributed to Wikipedia this year, for example. Or how much an online subscription to a a newspaper is.

  • I find it amazing that the paid subscription is $45/year - as compared to the free advertising supported one.

    a) I can't believe he makes anything like $45/subscriber for the ad supported version.
    b) The paid version is so expensive, I can't see people opting in to it given the advertisements are so subtle.
