Amusing poll at the end. But it didn't allow one to provide the (arguably) "correct" answer. I remember years ago, back in the days of standalone word processors, the accepted style was both. Double space after a period if you're using a fixed-pitch font, and single space if you're using a proportional font. I still think that makes the most sense visually. (I notice that Dragon Naturally Speaking provides a single post-period space.
