Faves for this Web page
I don't even know how to explain this video. It's a Spanish-influenced Devendra Banhart song set to a Ramayana meets Bollywood style video featuring Natalie Portmant. Insane.

Hang in there for 9 seconds and then the video will clear up and John Stewart will show all the Republican backtracking set in motion by Sarah Palin's selection.
Its a shame a real news organization won't actually ask these people for explanations.

wtf?!
okay, i think i'm finally able to articulate how i feel about this. i like that people are taking visual cues from bollywood, and some of the parodying is totally warranted (and hilarious). but i really don't like how the religious imagery has just become kitsch to people. it's like, this is a living religion! can you imagine if they did something like this with jesus?
hey there. playing devil's advocate here: they have done similar things with Jesus, too (South Park and Madonna's "Like a Prayer" video spring to mind). i think all deities are subject to parody/controversy/resignification. but obviously, it's going to upset some people too, and that's the risk. or maybe the point?
true, i totally know what you're saying and i thought about that with south park. but i feel like hindu deities ONLY occupy the space of kitsch in american pop culture (like t-shirts and bags at weird gift shops), so the general public doesn't necessarily understand the deeper meaning of this being a living religion as well, if that makes sense. sort of like, to parody something, first you have to understand it... truth be told, i'm not offended by it, but i just worry it might give people the wrong idea. but do i think this video is visually awesome...
