There are dozens of bookmarking services out there, but most are eclipsed by the size of Delicious. However, Blue Dot’s bookmarking service has remained a favorite of ours because of their ability to consistently innovate their interface. Today, with their re-launch as Faves.com, is no exception.

  • Nick Gonzalez of TechCrunch wrote a very nice review about our name change and new features. It's been some months in the planning and agonizing over a name change - it's nice to have it completed now.

I just /love/ the concept of "anti-social" bookmarkers. I love to see what my friends are bookmarking, but I am NOT interested in blogging.

  • roberthd - Nov 07 2007 | blue dot, faves, domain

    I like it...it's not topic networks it's anti-social networks.

yeah, i love the "anti-social twist" - that could totally be your hook.

  • We're in TechCrunch today (and so is derek if you look at the screenshot they've used).

Quoted: They’re making a big bet that the new features and .com domain will give a boost those numbers. All in all, they look to be off to a smart start.

    • akabagel - Nov 07 2007

I think the new domain is good, but it will always be bluedot to me :)

    • buggia - Nov 07 2007

Nice dude, seems like a pretty positive review from techcrunch!

    • shiwani - Nov 07 2007

      derek, you're famous!

    • timchao - Nov 07 2007

Haha, I agree with matt. I'm going to be using 'dot' as a verb forever.

    • shiwani - Nov 07 2007

i know, i do miss the verb-ness of dotting. however, the rhyming potential is exciting (save to faves!)

    • seregine - Nov 07 2007

Part of me wants to be a cantankerous conservative. A web2.0 badge/ribbon as a logo? And I'd rather be a Dotter than a Faver :) But I'm sure I'll get used to the new look soon enough, and I'm only mildly alienated in the meantime. Nice work with the different-but-same transition, balancing new features with UI consistency. You guys always have great polish in that regard.

    • akabagel - Nov 07 2007

I don't really like the new google ads placement though, it breaks up my friends dots too much

    • shiwani - Nov 07 2007

yeah, same. otherwise, i'm digging the release.

    • mohit - Nov 07 2007

      thanks for the feedback.

to mikhail's point, we definitely want to keep our existing users happy through any transitions. apologies for any oddities/disruptions.

    • mohit - Nov 07 2007

hey guys. sometimes those ads show up as text ads, and sometimes they show up as image ads. do you find them equally annoying?

    • akabagel - Nov 07 2007

I'd have to say they are both intrusive, however the text ads are more confusing (and thus more annoying), mostly because i'm looking at page full of boxes with text in them, and the ad blends in with that more. I think I'd prefer one ad at the top and one at the bottom
