Fuel efficiency is the key.
You don't need a Prius, but you wouldn't want a car from GM when the same class of car from Toyota is similarly priced, have better reliability, and uses less fuel?
Granted American cars have better reliabilities now, but it takes time before the notion of poorly built American cars wear off... so if you can't beat them on price, on public image, what can you do? ;)
I just heard Ford sales were down 28% this June! The rest of the automakers announce later today.
This could be the first month that Toyota outsells GM in the U.S. Last month, the Ford F-150 lost its top spot (to the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla) after many years at the top.
Detroit needs to figure things out fast. To make things worse, not only is Detroit's slice of the pie shrinking, the pie is shrinking, too.
Quoted: So, now what? Now, people want fuel efficiency, fuel efficiency and fuel efficiency. But not everyone wants a compact car. Plus, Honda and Toyota have the compact car business cornered anyway. Sure, Detroit needs better small cars. But to thrive General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC must go different ways than their Japanese rivals – and fast.

I'm looking forward to trying this place.

They boast the only feather bowling lanes in the country. Anyone that has ever played a game of bocce ought to recognize the simple rules. It seems fitting that the decor is '80s Elks lodge with laminated tables and bulky metal chairs. It's a bit dim and melancholy when empty but not uncomfortable.

Blogs video about Maverick John McCain for President 2008 IN Michigan. Maverick John McCain won MI in the 2000 Primary Campaign for President. Michigan is a purple state...a swing state. Underdog that he is, John McCain should do well here on General Election Day, November 4 2008 and has an excellent chance of winning the 17 Electoral Votes. Despite being the underdog in the 2008 Presidential Race for the White House, he has an excellent chance of being our next President of the United States as does Barack Obama.

Bob Lutz gave an informative and frank interview with Charlie Rose last night. I think he's right that people have been a bit too hard on Detroit lately. He points out that shareholders wouldn't have been pleased if GM had shifted from extremely profitable trucks & SUVs based on a hunch that gas would be over $4 a gallon. Anyway, they seem to have all their eggs in the Volt basket right now. We'll see.
