    Ridiculous

Quoted: Which begs the question: nine-year-olds can register to hunt with firearms? Surely there has to be a parental or adult supervision clause with that license. Or have we just decided it's fine to arm pre-teens if it's for hunting?

Those tricky bears are ALWAYS dressing up in blue hiker vests to trick hunters these days. I've seen them try to sneak by wearing helmets and riding mountain bikes too, but I know they're there.

Seriously, how did he think she was a bear?

It's so incredibly obvious that this kid didn't think the woman was a bear. He saw movement at 120 yards away and shot at it. Afterward, he had to say something and so he said he thought it was a bear. But the fact is that if someone older had been supervising him, they could have taught him about identifying your target BEFORE you pull the trigger.

This is terrible. Why was a 14 year old allowed to hunt with a 16 year old!

    • kristen - Aug 12 2008

They've decided to charge the kid with 1st degree manslaughter. I guess he wasn't just aiming at the lady in the blue parka in an open field but he was actually up on some sort of bluff as well so it's just impossible to believe he thought it was a bear.
