Back to my soapbox. 'They' said we'd move from an industrial-based society to a service one. They were wrong. The inference was that the USA would move from an agrarian - farmer - based economy to joining the industrial revolution as tractors replaced farmhands. Then as the manufacturing plants went overseas in a reverse - or perhaps extended - colonialism, USA workers would become a nation of haircutters, waitrons, and telephone sanitizers, the service industries. They were wrong: we're turning into a nation of pyramid scandal sellers. Oh, well.
