I lost the image (which is the only important thing) when I edited the blueDot.
Much better image is from here: http://www.sttos.com/images/episodes//260x195/01_TheCage_2354_260x195.jpg
From Catspaw (or the Menagerie or The Cage)

You've all seen it, haven't you?
See my comment.

The story. Runs in Safari; from some reason blocked in firefox, netscape. You try, let me know.
Why are there automatic tags of privacy and information set here? When will I have time to go back and erase all of the bad pointers/tags?Quoted: Astronomers who happened to be observing in the right place at the right time recently collected new pieces of data that allow them to paint an unprecedented picture of what goes on during the initial stages of an ultra-powerful stellar explosion.

Quoted: Hopefully some of you in North America will have clear skies tonight; check out the west about a half hour after sunset and look for this gorgeous setup: a 2-day old Moon with -0.6 magnitude Mercury shining below it, and the Pleiades and Hyades nearby. Thanks to a suggestion by a reader,
That would, of course, be me!! Kudos to me!!!

I like the pizazz of his presentations, but his webpage is very old style and hard to navigate.

May 6th, Tuesday, you can see Mercury just below the crescent moon. I saw Mecury last night. It's visible - about 45 degrees above the horizon? - as the first 'star' visible as the sun sets.
The computer says it is only 11° up from the horizon. If you double-click on my picture, you'll see the orrery image from StarryNight™. In the image, Sirius is the bright star on the left and Orion's belt, lying horizontal, is in the middle. In the sky the belt is quite obvious - looking like the handle of the big dipper - wih Beleteguese brightly blue above it (yes, I know it's a red giant.) Orion's belt is a beam of Mercury, more or less, but fainter. As the even gets on, Aldebaran comes into view (the lop left star of the asterism V in Taurus, the bull)
My thanks to Summer Ash for reminding me to look up Earth&Sky, as heard on NationalPublicRadio (NPR), http://www.earthsky.org/skywatching/

Sort of wonder why it's in black and white.
