Following on from the StORe project, a JISC press release announces that UKDA-store will be launched on 30 June 2008 at the NCRM Methods Festival in Oxford. UKDA-store uses repository software to aid researchers to deposit data with the UK Data Archive and to self-archive their data. Astrid Wissenburg, Director of Communication and Information at the ESRC is quoted as saying that "The ESRC welcomes the creation of UKDA-store as a valuable tool for the archiving of social science data, and is complementary to the ESRC's publications repository."

"Publishing data long-term with an accompanying journal publication can produce a large number of citations which will be good for your career in the Research Excellence Framework" -- said Michael Wilson, a researcher associated with the MRC Psycholinguistic Database, who presented this finding at the e-Science All-Hands Meeting in Edinburgh last month.
Edinburgh DataShare is an institutional data repository set up by the Data Library to help researchers do just this. It uses the same DSpace software as the Edinburgh Research Archive, ERA, and operates in tandem with the Publications Repository to provide a place for researchers to share the datasets on which their published papers are based.

As promised, SHERPA's Juliette service (compliments Romeo) now lists and rates the open access policies of research funders (UK and beyond) not only for peer reviewed outputs but for research data. Policies are given a pass-fail rating based on the following criteria: 1) Data archiving is required. 2) Data must be deposited within five years.
