A really fascinating article from History magazine. Interesting how much of a difference the development of lighting technologies made. It also explains how British and American eating customs ended up being so different... I'd really like to see something on what happened in other countries though (Italy and Spain have some funky customs that demand explanation)
Oh and remember: "Real men don't eat lunch!" ;)

Wow this is seriously nuts, but a brilliant zombie death metal meets soviet realism with a twist of art deco nuts and a free history lesson thrown in kind of nuts!
Oh and the scene where Gorbachov the Barbarian decapitates/death rays the KGB zombie guys with battleaxes/etc, immediately followed by happy people dancing as coke bottles and jeans fall from the sky is sheer genius ;)

Geek rock dialed up to 11 (and I think some Kung Fu movie motifs thrown in for good measure...)

0 FaversViewed: 9 TimesQuoted: MADISON, WI—The holidays evoke images of carolers and hot cocoa, sleigh rides through the crisp country air, and chestnuts roasting on an open fire. But for the four residents of a drafty little apartment on Johnson Street, such holiday traditions seemed nothing more than fairy tales.

I was just blown away by the sheer ambition, depth, and virtuosity of this book. I tend to like just about anything Stephenson writes but this one takes it to a completely different level imho
