Quoted: ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a developmental disorder and is diagnosed commonly in the United States. It is thought that anywhere from 3 to 5 percent of school age children worldwide exhibit symptoms of ADHD. There is no one cause of ADHD, but it is thought that genetics, diet, environment and various medical conditions can contribute to the condition. Symptoms include inattention, hyperactivity, trouble listening or focusing on tasks, forgetfulness and aggressive behavior. Boys are about three times more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than girls. There is no known single cure for ADHD, either allopathic or homeopathic. A decrease in symptoms can occur with drugs, natural remedies or a combination of approaches. Traditional prescription medications have been successful in alleviating symptoms but many parents are concerned with the numerous and serious side effects these drugs can sometimes cause. Drugs are often prescribed with the intent to discontinue treatment as ADHD symptoms abate in early adulthood. Recent studies have found, however, that more and more adults in their 20's and 30's are taking ADHD drugs that were initially prescribed in childhood. As yet, the long-term effects of these drugs are just not fully known. By the time parents inquire about ADHD symptoms in their child, they are usually exhausted from parenting tasks complicated by the condition. Eager for a 'quick fix' they oftentimes opt for a prescription medication without checking into other treatment options including changes in nutrition and diet, behavioral training and other options. Various natural remedies for ADHD children have shown to have helped in many cases. If you are a parent of an ADHD child, consult with your physician. Educate yourself and teach your child about the condition and explore all the options available. Each child is unique and there is probably a treatment, or combination of treatments that will work the best for your child. Natural remedies for ADHD children take more time to work. Parents who incorporate natural alternatives in their treatment program have the time and are more willing to work with their children. They are more concerned with keeping the current personality of their child intact, even if that means having a child that is not always docile or doesn't always conform to a theoretical norm or average.
