I don't know why it took me so long to get into Erykah Badu, but thanks to the VH1 Soul channel, I am finally becoming obsessed with her. This song and video have been haunting me in my dreams all week...

    Little Steven's Underground Garage

Rock n roll radio shows that compel you to stay up past your bedtime on a school night... They were the mainstay of my adolescent life, and to this day there is a very big, very soft spot in my heart that nothing else can touch. I went to work all groggy this morning because I literally could not shut off my radio last night until "Little Steven's Underground Garage" was over. The music is great--mostly obscure 1960's garage rock and psychedelia--but personally I think Little Steven's between-song tangents are even better. He always seemed cool as the pirate-looking guy in the E-street Band, but who knew how hilarious, sarcastic, and oddly profound he was?

Top 1043 Songs Of All Time - Q104.3 - New York's Classic Rock

Q104.3 should seriously consider allowing listeners to program their station all the time, because the playlist gets so much more interesting! I'm looking forward to the Top 1043 Songs of All Time Countdown (Thanksgiving weekend) because it's the one time all year when they show Lou Reed any love. (Come on, you're a classic rock station in New York, of all places! It's your patriotic duty to play more Lou!) Anyway, you can vote for your 10 favorite songs online.

Gabriel Juggling New Album With Array Of Projects

Considering that there was a 10-year wait between Peter Gabriel's last two albums, I know I shouldn't get excited about this yet. But it's hard not to! Aside from that news, this article is full of all kinds of adorably nerdy information about how PG keeps busy these days. For example, did you know that he presented at the Audio Engineering Society convention, in a replica of his studio? Yeah, I know. The list of reasons to love him just keeps growing. :)

    In Defense of The Police

That's funny, I didn't realize The Police needed defending. They've always seemed obviously awesome to me! But if you are the type of person who likes to hate on them for being "fake punks" or on Sting for his pompous windbaggery, this article aims to convert you.

Amazon.com: Real Life: Music: Joan As Police Woman

Joan As Police Woman is the project of Joan Wasser, whom I was vaguely aware of before as the violinist in Antony and the Johnsons and one of the performers in the "Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man" movie. But I must confess, what first intrigued me enough to check out her album was the badass photo of her on the cover! It doesn't matter, though, the important thing is that I did check it out and it's awesome. Her sound reminds me of a lot of random things, like 70's R&B, Chrissie Hynde, and French Impressionist composers like Erik Satie, which seem like they shouldn't go together but totally do. And her lyrics are very poignant without being trite or sappy. (There's also a duet with Antony, who still gives me warm fuzzy feelings no matter how ubiquitous he becomes...)
