Wetpaint Adds Friend Feeds, and Social Networking Tools

Wetpaint got a mention in Mashable tonight. Mashable highlights some of the additions in their new release such as an activity feed and user "compliments".

Wetpaint is another Seattle startup located in the Pioneer Square neighborhood. Wetpaint wikis powers some popular film and tv fan sites like the Lost wiki (http://www.losttvfans.com) or the James Bond wiki (http://www.jamesbondwiki.com).

Quoted: Wetpaint wikis are taking more steps to become like fully-functioning social networks, with the release of several new features that are typically found on social networking sites, moving attention away from the enterprise solutions Wetpaint has recently been working on.

    E-Commerce News: E-Commerce: Portals in an E-Commerce 2.0 World

Wishpot, a social shopping web service based in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle, was mentioned in an article on the Ecommerce Times.

Quoted: "Social shopping sites are definitely already more semantic than general Web 2.0 sites," Wishpot CEO Max Ciccotosto told the E-Commerce Times. "They do a lot of interesting things with the concept of 'product;' they are able to scrape for this info, parse it, etc. They are filtered gateways."

InsideTrip Thinks There’s More to Shopping for Airline Tickets Than Just Prices

I heard about a new travel related startup based in Seattle this morning on John Cook and TechCrunch -- InsideTrip.com. InsideTrip is founded by Dave Pelter.

Quoted: InsideTrip wants to help you find and purchase the tickets for your next trip. However, instead of focusing entirely on surfacing the cheapest flights, the service intends to help you identify those flights with the highest levels of quality.
    ...
Quality is measured by factors spanning 3 categories (speed, comfort, and ease) and addressing 12 so-called “pain points” (such as number of stops, security wait time, legroom, aircraft type, connection time, and gate location).

Learning From a Native Speaker, Without Leaving Home - New York Times

LiveMocha was mentioned earlier this month in a piece in the New York Times. The service is a language learning website started by Shirish Nadkarni formerly of Research in Motion, TeamOn Systems and Microsoft. LiveMocha is based in Bellevue.

Quoted: THE best way to learn a foreign language may be to surround yourself with native speakers. But if you can’t manage a trip abroad the Internet and a broadband computer connection may do the job, too, bringing native speakers within electronic reach for hours of practice.

    Most Influential Entrepreneur-Bloggers of Seattle

Marcelo Calbucci of Sampa has done a lot to promote the tech startup community of Seattle so it is only right that a Fave pointing to him lists first.

Here Marcelo ranks the most influential entrepreneur bloggers of Seattle. Some are new to me, some are already in my reader. Thanks Marcelo!

Quoted: For a while I’ve been tinkering with an idea of publishing a Seattle Blog Rank like the Startup Index, except is just too hard to find a good measure of what a blog rank is. While I keep thinking on that problem I decided to put together a list of top entrepreneurs and bloggers from Seattle. All of these blogs are written by people that have their hands dirty building companies and are mostly about that.
