LED Light Bulbs to Take Over?

Quoted: Light emitting diodes, or LEDs, are widely used today in a variety of devices – they are often integrated in remote controls and toys, and are commonly used for street and traffic lighting. However, so far, LEDs have not become popular in the mainstream consumer market, probably because LED light sources emit strange ‘disturbing’ colors, and because they are significantly more expensive than traditional incandescent light bulbs. LSG says its new LED product line solves both of these issues, delivering a combination of high energy efficiency and light quality in a "cost effective" way.

Introducing OLED - LCD TV's worst nightmare

"No backlight also means when there's no current, there's no light. Therefore, we're able to achieve unprecedented contrast," Lapointe adds, referring to how black the blacks look on a television (measured in a ratio between black and white). Compared to a flat-panel LCD television with, say, a true contrast ratio of 1,000:1, or a plasma TV with 20,000:1, an OLED TV is said to have a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. "And this is a conservative estimate," Lapointe says

Electroluminescent Light - Light Emitting Capacitor (LEC)

It produces light when phosphor crystals are excited by being exposed to electric current. Electroluminescent (EL) panels and strips can be found as backlighting for LCDs in pagers, cell phones, watches, and control panels as well as strip lighting for egress, decor architecture, broadcast sets, and much more.
