    Pax Corleone

Refaving the TopBillin'... I think mowen016 would enjoy this.

Quoted: The aging Vito Corleone, emblematic of cold-war American power, is struck down suddenly and violently by forces he did not expect and does not understand, much as America was on September 11. Even more intriguingly, each of his three “heirs” embraces a very different vision of how the family should move forward following this wrenching moment. Tom Hagen, Sonny and Michael approximate the three American foreign-policy schools of thought—liberal institutionalism, neoconservatism and realism—vying for control in today’s disarranged world order.

Wow, that is fascinating. Interesting that it points out Hillary as being wrong (Tom), but does not equate Sonny to McCain or Michael to Obama. Perhaps the author believes that hillary won't get the nomination and so therefore can be counted out while individual opinions about the two presidential candidates are left to be considered.

yeah, that's an awesome article. simply as an analysis of the godfather it's brilliant. now i have to watch that movie again. as for the metaphor...sonny's position makes a certain sense since sollozzo has just had vito gunned down; ahmadinejad hasn't attacked or done anything analogous to that, so the situation's not really the same. hey if you want to pursue the metaphor further, i bet the regular folks of new york would rather be rid of all those gangsters...

    US Primaries 2007

Quoted: ... The Political Compass is a universal tool, reflecting the full spectrum of political thought, and applicable to all democracies.
    ...
US politics are generally fought within a more confined space. While in mainstream America, Clinton, for example, may be seen as left leaning, in the overall political landscape, she is a moderate conservative. Someone like Kucinich, while seen by his severest opponents as an extreme left winger, would qualify as a typical social democrat in a European context.
