Psychedelic surrealistic paintings by Maura Holden

    Wow!
Quote from Raw Vision:"In her meticulously rendered, illusionistic drawings and paintings, Maura Holden creates richly detailed, self-contained worlds, in which fantastic primeval landscapes and cities made up of elaborate multi-tiered buildings emerge from banks of billowing fog or stand out against glowing, turbulent-looking skies.

The human figures and gargoylish creatures populating these realms are most often frontally posed in confrontational stances, to somewhat unnerving effect. These are powerful, visionary images, evoking a deep sense of the uncanny."

    Laurie Lipton Drawings

"I taught myself how to draw. I couldn't figure-out how to paint in that clear, precise style, so I developed a technique using tiny, little lines to build-up tones, just like the Flemish painters had used tiny lines to build-up colour. It was a very time-consuming way to create a drawing, but the results were luminous and the detail I could get was boundless."

Alejandro Jodorowsky - Trailer - Showtimes - Cast - Movies - New York Times

    The Panic Movement.

Quoted: A biography and related information about Alejandro Jodorowsky.
"In 1975, Jodorowsky, now living in Paris, announced his next project, an adaptation of Frank Herbert's sci-fi epic Dune starring Brontis Jodorowsky, Alexandro's son. Orson Welles, Gloria Swanson, and Salvador Dali were also on board, but the film never got past the production stage. Almost as intriguing as the cast was the development talent Jodorowsky employed, which included writer Dan O'Bannon and the artists Jean Giraud (aka Moebius), Chris Foss, and H.R. Giger. (All four would eventually work together on Alien.) Pink Floyd and the prog-rock group Magma were also reportedly on board to provide the score."

"The museum is best known for its large collection of skulls and anatomical specimens including a wax model of a woman with a human horn growing out of her forehead, the tallest skeleton on display in North America, a 5'-long human colon that contained over 40 pounds of fecal matter, and the petrified body of the mysterious Soap Lady, whose corpse was turned into a soapy substance called adipocere. Many wax models from the early 19th century are on display as are numerous preserved organs and body parts. The museum also hosts a collection of teratological specimens (preserved human fetal specimens), a malignant tumor removed from President Grover Cleveland's hard palate, the conjoined liver from Siamese twins Chang and Eng Bunker, and a growth removed from President Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth."
