Every summer I find a few TV series on DVD and add them to my Netflix queue to get me through the weeknights. This year I'm starting with Big Love. Its one of the few HBO shows left from the peak of the HBO Original Series, when Sopranos, The Wire and 6 Feet Under were all still active.
Since then, HBO has tried John From Cincinnati, True Blood and now Eastbound and Down. None of those shows have gotten to the point where I hear people staking their reputation with a recommendation. Big Love has enough of "that guy/girl" actors to hold me over while the story builds.
So far, so good (season 1, disc 1).
Quoted: As if juggling three wives weren't tricky enough, Season Three of Emmy®- and Golden Globe®-nominated 'Big Love' finds modern polygamist Bill Henrickson (Bill Paxton) tackling problems outside his three-house suburban home.

I've been watching Conan this week in his new time slot and I'd say its pretty been good so far. There have been slight changes compared to his "Late Night" shows, but every night he seems a little more comfortable.
Quoted: The debut of NBC’s new “Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” attracted higher ratings than any program in prime time on Monday as the storied franchise of late night reset with an audience large enough to match the fanfare.

click to playI weep for future generations if The Ad Council really deems this campaign necessary. I'd like to start my own counter-campaign that says "Just Delete It". And I will overthrow Facebook and Twitter. I know kids a pretty stupid and prone to peer pressure, but if you can't convince a kid to delete his Facebook page or confront a relentless texter, I can't imagine what advice you're going to give them when they have to solve REAL problems.
Quoted: Your cell phone, IM, and social networks are all a digital extension of who you are. When someone you're with pressures you or disrespects you in those places, that's not cool. Thatsnotcool.com is attempting to raise awareness about digital dating abuse and stop it before it gets worse.

This is good news.
Quoted: Simon, a frequent visitor to the city and a longtime New Orleans music fan, said… that the stories told in “Treme” would reach beyond the music scene to explore political corruption, the public housing controversy, the crippled criminal-justice system, clashes between police and Mardi Gras Indians, and the struggle to regain the tourism industry after the storm.
Quoted: “It’s basically a post-Katrina history of the city. It will be rooted in events that everybody knows,” Simon said. “What it’s not going to be is a happy stroll through David Simon’s record collection. It should not be a tourism slide show. If we do it right, it (will be) about why New Orleans matters.”

I thought it was pretty awkward. Especially the unedited versions up at TheDailyShow.com. But its kind of embarrassing how Jon Stewart is the person that has to really nail somebody about whats going on. If I were a "real" reporter for one of the network news shows I'd feel pretty sheepish about this.

Tonight (Thursday), Stewart and THE COMEDIAN face off on The Daily Show. Which should be particularly interesting given that Jon Stewart called him a buffoon who waves his arms and plays random sound effects.
Quoted: One of the most intriguing, and potentially important, interviews of the week will take place Thursday night without either a journalist or a newsmaker. Fans of finance and entertainment are salivating to see how CNBC's Jim Cramer holds up when he appears on Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Quoted: But Channel 4 Detroit does not take such slights willingly, instead choosing to run the following message along the bottom of screen anytime Millen's mug appeared on it: "Matt Millen was president of the Lions for the worst eight-year run in the history of the NFL. Knowing his history with the team, is there a credibility issue as he now serves as an analyst for NBC Sports?"

A terrible theme song from the Gilligan's Island pilot. They obviously reworked the show from the pilot.
