NPR : Oregon School Cafeteria Makes It from Scratch

This public school has amazing food, because they've incorporated gardening into the school ciriculum so they can get very in expensive, organic food. Really interesting to see how that impacts children's thoughts and habits about food.

Quoted: Here's a word you don't associate with the school cafeteria: fresh. But last year, Abernathy Elementary School in Portland, Ore., bought a second-hand stove and a big mixer and started cooking all its food from scratch. Success is measured by the trash: Kids are throwing less food away.

Had dinner here tonight and it was some of the best mexican food I've ever had. Much better than galerias and much less expensive. Also had desert and it was amazing. Key Lime Cake, and my friend had the flan with mexican chocolete and a shot of tequila poured over it. And the owner, Luis, was really cool. Check it out!

they did get the option to lease some new space, but the new space will be less than 25% of their existing space, not really enough space to sustain their business. There is a public forum coming up to discuss the matter, I'm going to try and figure out what we can do and I'll dot it.... I just emailed the stranger, and I'm going to email the project owner to... if anyone else would like to email the stranger - press@thestranger.com
