I remember seeing this years ago in Popular Science as a 'fantasy'. Amazing it's actually getting done. I know where I'm retiring to...

Quoted: For those of you who haven't heard of The World, it's an enormous project going on in Dubai. Where they will construct islands, that as a whole will resemble the different parts of our planet.

Quoted: We seem to say this every time Dubai announces a crazy engineering endeavor, but as soon as we're done learning Arabic we are so moving there. It's like they ask the coolest 5-year-old what kind of buildings they like, and then build them.– Benjamin Longo

Interesting to go through and see other people try whacky ideas around UI. I've seen these ideas come and go for many years. It will be interesting to see where the real breakthrough comes from.

I especially like the 'breathing room' statement...

Quoted: Stop worrying about the fold. Don’t throw your best practices out the window, but stop cramming stuff above a certain pixel point. You’re not helping anyone. Open up your designs and give your users some visual breathing room. If your content is compelling enough your users will read it to the end.

Everything I Know About Design I Learned from The Sopranos - Michael Bierut

A hilarious post, painting likenesses between Design and the Sopranos...

Quoted: For reasons too complicated to explain here — aside from the obvious point that they sound somewhat alike — the design equivalent to disrespecting the Bing is doing spec work.

Quoted: By his own admission, Howard Schultz was inspired by the coffee houses of Venice and Milan when he created his own little version in Seattle. The designers of the graphical use interface at Apple were influenced by work developed at Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center. And some people think that the Flintstones are just the Honeymooners except set in the Stone Age. Imitation, influence, and iteration are crucial to design development. The only requirement is that the goal is transformation, not replication.

Quoted: On The Sopranos, interest in certain things, including but not limited to event planning, fashion design, literature, and certain psychological theories, are considered indications of effeminacy.
