Interesting take on the Google v. Microsoft competition. Google (and Apple) are the flavor of the day (well, the last couple years). Question is, as they increase in size and mature, will the growth rate continue and will investors and partners continue to line up.

Quoted: Still, some think investors are getting overly Google-fied. To justify its current stock price, Google needs to increase its revenue by 50% a year for the next five years, says David Trainer of business valuation firm New Constructs. Few, if any, companies of this size can do that, he says. "Investors are playing a game of musical chairs," he says. "The music has to stop."

Apple / Google relationship being investigated for antitrust violations

Ah, shame. So sad to see poor Apple and Google in antitrust litigation. My real question is, why is Apple Janet and Chrissy is Google? I would have defintiely put it the other way around. And Jack is the DOJ? Is Engadget trying to say that the DOJ is a fumbling idiot? Hm, ok, there is some correlation there.

Quoted: ...the relationship between the two companies is so tight they actually share board members: Google CEO Eric Schmidt and former Genentech CEO Arthur Levinson take meetings in both Cupertino and Mountain View. That's apparently raised some hackles at the Federal Trade Commission, which has reportedly informed both companies they're being investigated for violating a rarely-enforced section of the Clayton Antitrust Act prohibiting "interlocking directorates" when it reduces competition.

    Google Blatantly Copies Yahoo!?

    Heheh...

Quoted: Back when IE7 launched, Yahoo! created a customized version and began to market it to our existing IE users... Today it seems that Google has similar intentions. So similar, that they decided to basically copy our page and slightly Googlify it. If you look, the design, layout, and most of the text are the same!

    Microsoft and Facebook Hook Up

Nice that Microsoft beat Google to this one... though you have to wonder how far down the barrel they had to reach. Could Facebook really be anywhere near this valuable? Too bad MS didn't beat Google to YouTube, or beat Yahoo! to Flickr.

Quoted: After losing many battles to Web behemoth Google (GOOG), Microsoft (MSFT) finally won one. On Oct. 24, the software giant prevailed in its bid for a stake in the social network Facebook. Microsoft agreed to buy a $240 million piece of the company in a transaction that values Facebook at $15 billion.

A yes, MSFT likes to buy its users. Well, at least that's one way to do it.

Quoted: MSN and Microsoft Live's U.S. search query volume showed a 67% increase from May to June, according to a new report.

Quoted: A good portion of the additional Live searches are coming from the Live Search Club, where you can apparently play games for points which you can redeem for fine Microsoft products," said Steve Willis, a Compete analyst, in a blog post Monday. "All of the games involve using Live's search engine -- to get the points; you have to search with Live.

Microsoft Versus Google: Apple Wins - Forbes.com

    Great article...

Quoted: Rather than busting up Microsoft, the <anti-trust> deal blocks Microsoft from hindering rivals who would build applications that run on Windows--and Jobs has been using that ruling to turn Apple into a Windows software powerhouse ever since.
