Ah, shame. So sad to see poor Apple and Google in antitrust litigation. My real question is, why is Apple Janet and Chrissy is Google? I would have defintiely put it the other way around. And Jack is the DOJ? Is Engadget trying to say that the DOJ is a fumbling idiot? Hm, ok, there is some correlation there.
Quoted: ...the relationship between the two companies is so tight they actually share board members: Google CEO Eric Schmidt and former Genentech CEO Arthur Levinson take meetings in both Cupertino and Mountain View. That's apparently raised some hackles at the Federal Trade Commission, which has reportedly informed both companies they're being investigated for violating a rarely-enforced section of the Clayton Antitrust Act prohibiting "interlocking directorates" when it reduces competition.

This is very cool. I'm a little suspicious though as to just how philanthropic this is vs. Google just building a platform for them to move in to new markets.
Quoted: Project 10 to the 100th is a call for ideas to change the world by helping as many people as possible.
Quoted: Never in history have so many people had so much information, so many tools at their disposal, so many ways of making good ideas come to life. Yet at the same time, so many people, of all walks of life, could use so much help, in both little ways and big.

Wow, the lenghts Google will go to disrupt Microsoft.
Quoted: Yahoo Inc.’s last-ditch efforts to avoid a takeover by Microsoft Corp. appear to be setting the stage for a dramatic finale featuring a rich cast of Internet and media stars.
Quoted: Eager to frustrate Microsoft in any way possible, Internet search leader Google Inc. has already agreed to help out Yahoo by participating in an unusual test that will gauge how much more advertising Google can sell for its struggling rival.

Nice to see someone 'embrace' an MS web platform over Google's.
Quoted: Facebook is still the odd company out with the OpenSocial APIs, but is on board with the Windows Live Contacts API, which allows members to import Windows Live contacts to their respective sites. Read this blog post by Dan Farber on Outside the Lines.
Quoted: Facebook has signed up to partner with Microsoft on address book portability. Along with LinkedIn, Tagged, Hi5, and Bebo, Facebook is endorsing the Windows Live Contacts API, which allows contact info portability.

Heheh...
Quoted: Back when IE7 launched, Yahoo! created a customized version and began to market it to our existing IE users... Today it seems that Google has similar intentions. So similar, that they decided to basically copy our page and slightly Googlify it. If you look, the design, layout, and most of the text are the same!
craighal | Shared With: Everyone - Nov 01 2007 | google, microsoft, businessInteresting take on the Google v. Microsoft competition. Google (and Apple) are the flavor of the day (well, the last couple years). Question is, as they increase in size and mature, will the growth rate continue and will investors and partners continue to line up.
Quoted: Still, some think investors are getting overly Google-fied. To justify its current stock price, Google needs to increase its revenue by 50% a year for the next five years, says David Trainer of business valuation firm New Constructs. Few, if any, companies of this size can do that, he says. "Investors are playing a game of musical chairs," he says. "The music has to stop."
craighal | Shared With: Everyone - Oct 31 2007 | google, facebook, technologyI can totally see Google taking on Facebook and invigorating another social networking development platform. Windows Live has one, as does Yahoo. Question is, who is going to build the platform for the platforms, so things will work everywhere?
Quoted: As I see it, the biggest shortcoming of social-networking sites is their inability to play well with others. Between MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, Tribe, Pownce, and the numerous also-rans, it seems as if maintaining an active presence at all of these sites could erode into becoming a full-time job. If Google can somehow create a means for all of these services to work together, and seamlessly interact with the Google family, then perhaps this is the killer app that people don't even realize they've been waiting for.

Nice that Microsoft beat Google to this one... though you have to wonder how far down the barrel they had to reach. Could Facebook really be anywhere near this valuable? Too bad MS didn't beat Google to YouTube, or beat Yahoo! to Flickr.
Quoted: After losing many battles to Web behemoth Google (GOOG), Microsoft (MSFT) finally won one. On Oct. 24, the software giant prevailed in its bid for a stake in the social network Facebook. Microsoft agreed to buy a $240 million piece of the company in a transaction that values Facebook at $15 billion.

Google's Calendar widget builder. Support for multiple calendars to display, and some style options. This always results in a single iframe tag to embed on your site.
It seems odd that the builder has to sent size information to the embedded iframe url. Why is this not just rendered on the client where it has access to it's frame size?
