FORTUNE Magazine: Warren Buffett gives away his fortune - Jun. 25, 2006

Interesting that so many articles have so many different numbers for how much Buffett is giving Gates Foundation. the BBC story quotes it at 39 bn, but this story values the whole portfolio to be given at 37 billion, with the Gates Foundation only getting 85% of it (the rest being divided amongst four Buffett family charities). The number we've repeatedly been told is about $30 Billion. This article explains why the value is so hard to guess, because it's tied to future stock prices.

Quoted: We were sitting in a Manhattan living room on a spring afternoon, and Warren Buffett had a Cherry Coke in his hand as usual. But this unremarkable scene was about to take a surprising turn.

FT.com / Comment & analysis / Analysis - Gates finds controversy even in works of charity

This is an interesting article on criticizm to the approach the Gates Foundation is taking in the field of global health, and reaction to the latest annual report. I would say the criticizm is fair, and they are known issues inside and are being worked on already. But it's good to see someone addressing issues of health and development strategy instead of focusing on the money.

Quoted: Foundation gives rise to criticism
