Canon to mass-produce flat panel TVs - Yahoo! News

First SED news in a while.

Quoted: Canon (7751.T) and Toshiba (6502.T) said on Tuesday they would start mass production of ultra-thin flat-panel TVs in early 2008, entering a market dominated by makers such as Matsushita Electric Industrial (6752.T) and Samsung Eletronics (005930.KS).

Digital World Tokyo - Gadgets, Gear and Good Things from Japan...

I've been following SED TVs for quite some time now. You'll still hear hopeful souls disappointed by the current crop of digital microdisplays thinking they'll be out mid-2006, but that's obviously not going to happen. If they release Q4 '07, they probably won't be affordable (regardless of production costs, production capacity and demand will greatly inflate prices) until late '08 or early '09 (remember $25,000 short-life plasmas?), so you might want to get something HD capable to hold you over until then. :)
