An article documenting some hands-on time with the PS3. No surprises here for me. Games will not, for the most part, be rendered in 1080p (they'll be internally rendered at 720p like Xbox 360 titles), and its technical advantages over the Xbox 360 are fairly minimal in practice.

Ultimate AV: Update On HDMI And the Next-Gen Formats

Good article with info on next gen DVD formats, focusing on 1080p. Sounds like the HD-DVD camp is far more practical at this point. Sony's insistence on 1080p output in Blu-Ray players is silly, since they only ship one set (a $13K Qualia with a $3K upgrade kit) that even supports 1080p input. I predict that we'll see 1080i at launch from both formats. Yes, both. Sigh.

Been doing some TV shopping over the past year -- this new Sony SXRD 1080p is the best set I've seen so far. Too rich for my blood, but once this goes on sale I might have to own one. If only the ugly side speakers were detachable :(

Toshiba 1080p DLPs - AVS Forum

Discussion forum for the Toshiba 56MX195 1080p DLP set. Saw the 61 @ Video Only, looked good. They're willing to make a nice deal on the 56 (not much more than I paid for the 52" JVC I returned, and this has a built in tuner, dual hdmi, cablecard, 1080p, etc.). Only downside is that it can't actually take a 1080p signal in, but that's only relevant for HTPC and PS3 ... and both of those will probably be good enough[tm] @ 720p or 1080i.
