The free version has very limited export capabilities, so it's not useful as a general modeling program (you can't model a desk and import into other home design software). The Pro version, on the other hand, is $500 ... I'd use that money towards one of the top tier programs (Maya, 3ds Max, Rhino, ...) ... much steeper learning curve, but far more capabilities.
