Twilight’s Mournful Blues: The Shadowed Realm of Life’s Deepest Longings

The twilight, shadowed realm of experiences we have not yet been able to put into words gives voice to an inner world fraught with ambiguity and uncertainty. However, it also reflects longings for humanity’s deeper emotional experiences: love, peace, life and time (to live). Sadly, these very yearnings too often engender unbearable sources of frustration. We often want to soar with magical imagination, but yet are constrained by feelings that we shouldn’t pretend; we believe in dreams, but live in a dream-forsaken land. Reaching out to others from the shadows of our own internal worlds calls upon us to recognize and appreciate multiple perspectives. And to be not afraid of courting surprise.

Includes visualizations through wonderful photographs and a memorable 2-min. short film (with music).

The Hot and Sexy Black Motorcycle Madonna

Holy Golly Smokie! What on earth is this? Looks like a scene from “Fast and Furious” version 5.05, all ready to be revving up their engines! I usually think of small town main streets when I see shiny, shiny glittering motorcycles like this. But think I saw some like this down in Greenwich Village last week. Wowee, this is one really hot, sexy beast mama! Makes me think of Bob Dylan's old song, "The motorcycle black madonna, Two-wheeled gypsy queen, And her silver-studded phantom..." The photographer of this really captured those blue and black lights very well. This is just awesome!

Le Petit Prince: No You May Not Have My Crown Too!

I'm struck with awe looking at this scene, it's simply amazing! This photographer has really mastered the art of capturing a magical portrait of the dramas in the everyday lives of children. The stunning image here reveals a passionate childhood moment that lives on with us in our later years. The details, the exquisite expressions on the children's faces, their postures, the marvelous sense of texture and shading, the wonderful use of subtle sepia tone, the mix of humor with pathos. There's just so much to see here, so much to love. Amazing. Perfect.

Looking So Very Down On All The City Taxis!

This is so exciting, it's like a little Toy City! A wonderful image, there's so much to see here in such a tiny sliver of our world. It's like putting a drop of pond water under a microscope, with the picture's brisk, crisp details and lively colors: the line of cabs, the L shape of the streets straightly framing the two sides, the colorful people dotting the street corner and those fancy probably socialites dining on their terrace. Even the words on the street are perfectly aligned. And about those the cabs in perfect lineup...how did the photographer manage to make them perform like that? I'm hungry right now, and that makes me wonder just what these fancy rich socialite people are eating. Probably some fresh tagliatelle from Allen & Delancey, or someplace like that. Can't decide what I like most about this amazing photograph, there's so much to look at, so much to love.

Still Life: A Quiet, Stilled Drama of Caring

This photograph is an awe-inspiring tribute to a quiet passion for the generous art of caring. In its almost minimalist reflection of two hands gently entwined in the darkness, caring becomes the very aesthetics of everyday life. This image provides us with an almost silently unrevealed, yet at the same time solidly strong visual narrative of mutually reciprocal, unquenchable devotion between the older and the younger, the stronger and the more tender. It captures a magical portrait of a nuanced and richly caring sense of being compassionately human.

The Coastline of Praia Piquinia: Observing Quiet, Stilled Narratives of Humanity

“Praia Piquinia” is a beautiful series of images by the French photographer Christian Chaize. While vacationing in Portugal, Chaize became engrossed with the landscape and people on a small stretch of coastline in southern Portugal. His fascination with the magical changes that took place from year to year breathed a new sense of inspiration into his personal work.

“Praia Piquinia” spans five years and a total of twenty-seven photographs; seven of those photographs are presented here. The images were shot in a vertical format, rather than the traditional horizontal landscape style; Chaize believes this enabled him to create a portrait that captured this ethereal nook in nature over the minutes, days and years.

This piece concludes with a touching music video by Chaize, a video diary of his New York visit for the exhibition of “Praia Piquinia.”

The Michael Jackson Memorial Service: We Are the World

Michael Jackson was honored on Tuesday at a memorial service held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, while millions of people watched the service on live television throughout the world. During the service, there were performances by Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie and Jennifer Hudson, among others. Toward the conclusion of the Memorial Service, a medley of singers performed “We Are The World” beneath a giant image of the world, later joined by dozens of hand-holding, racially-inclusive children, to sing “Heal the World.”

This piece presents a number of memorable photographs from the service, a slide show and a link to view the entire service. It also includes two music videos, the performance of “We Are the World” at the Memorial Service and the original 1985 “USA for Africa: We Are the World.”

    City Rainfall in the Sunset

This is an incredible scene, it's really something very different from what I expected to see. If you just think of having to go outside and face yet another dreary, rainy day in the city as the sun is going, you certainly wouldn't anticipate picturing this. You can tell that this is one of the few street photographers who really enjoys working with the subtle moodiness of cloudiness and rain. Even so, this scene is really quite a big stretch, and a surprisingly very nice one at that. Looking at this has a very calming effect. It gives the impression of something that's been preserved in amber. Amber rainfall in the sunset. Perfect, that's all I can say. Just perfect.

Mindplotter: Dueling States of Hardcore Metallic Brutality vs. Peaceful Inspiration

“Mindplotter” is a 1/2 min. hardcore animated motion design short film, which the directors describe as a symbol of the creative process for all filmmakers in the field of animation. For them, the act of emerging creativity involves being able to switch between two stages, inspiration and creation. Creativity is represented as the duality and interpenetration of the internal and outer world, consisting of both the calm beauty of a sea creature and the menacing violence generated by a metallic fighting machine. “Mindplotter” conceives of creativity as the mutual interaction of peaceful introspection with aggressive acts into the external world, violently and destructively staking its claim to artistic innovation by destroying the old order of things.

This piece includes a number of colorful illustrations from the film, as well as the hardcore animated motion design short film, “Mindplotter.”

Trattoria in Classical Blue Neon Over Vintage Beige Pastels

To me, this is a gorgeous scene...the picture evokes so many thoughts. First, I have to say that with all of the noisy commotion pounding on us right now with the July Fourth Weekend: the manically-batty efforts of politicians to grab more media attention, the winding down and newly impending armed conflicts abroad...this little scene offers a welcome, peaceful respite. It's a great shot, you can tell that this photographer enjoys working outside with the subtle moodiness of cloudiness and occasional rain.

And...very nice blue neon. Places in Europe still seem to be using classical neon signs a lot more than we do here. And the mix of the crispness, the composition and the historic, fading of pastel beige colors is highlighted by the angle of the shot...all coming together for a very calming effect. Could sit down and have a quiet little meal there...maybe some pasta with boar's meat sauce.
