One of my favorite features in this house is the Utility Meter that "spins backwards when solar power exceeds house demand, selling power back to the utility company."
I was overjoyed for a moment, fantasizing about the day when my house calls me on my cell phone while I'm out climbing, "Madam, the solar power has exceeded our house demand, please specify the rate at which I shall sell power to Seattle City Light."
Then I remember, *oh*, I live in *Seattle*
/le sigh

Thank you Stephen.Quoted: Earth Day is not my day, not really.
As both a conservative and an avid indoorsman, I've always seen it as a high holy day for hippies, Whole Foods devotees, spotted-owl fetishists and sundry crunchy-granola types who believe that "Think Globally, Act Locally" is the Eleventh Commandment.
But you know, I've got to wonder how much longer we on the right can justify an environmental philosophy that amounts to little more than sneering at liberal tree-huggers.

James and I had a BIG fight about this, because I got a TerraPass, and he disagrees with the philosophy of these companies, which according to him is to play off of people's guilt, and saying that it's ok to drive an SUV 4 miles to go to the mall, all you have to do is a buy a sticker for your conscience.
I thought of it as a way to donate to clean energy projects, but James said there are other ways to do that, but when I pressed he couldn't come up with a good solution.
So yeah, long fight.
