Technology Review: Microsoft unveils 3-D maps in latest bid to upstage Google

Demoed at web 2.0 conference. I wonder how this can be incorporated with flight monitoring technology.

Quoted: SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Microsoft Corp. has upgraded its online mapping service to include three-dimensional tours of 15 U.S. cities, marking another step in its dogged pursuit of Internet search leader Google Inc.

Quoted: With the improvements unveiled Monday, Microsoft is hoping to upstage Google's popular ''Earth'' software, which enables about one-third of the world's population to obtain an aerial view of their homes and neighborhoods.

    Sound Transit

Quoted: Construction is well under way on a new 14-mile Central Link light rail line that is a critical piece in this region's transportation future. The trains will begin carrying passengers in 2009, stopping at 12 stations and running 4.4 miles on elevated tracks, 2.5 miles in tunnels and seven miles at grade.

Quoted:To support that line, Sound Transit is retrofitting the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel and its existing stations for joint use by both light rail trains and buses. Sound Transit is also building new light rail stations in the following locations: near the sports stadiums and at Lander Street just south of downtown Seattle; at Beacon Hill; at McClellan, Henderson, Othello and Edmunds Streets in the Rainier Valley; and in Tukwila. Soon after this initial segment of the light rail line opens, Sound Transit will open a 1.7-mile extension to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, adding a thirteenth station.

    meeblog » meebo map!

    This is really wicked cool.

<quote>The map shows approximately where IMs have been sent or received through meebo over the past 15 minute slice. Lighter dots represent areas with low IM activitiy (even a single IM!) and red dots show areas with lots of IMs — sometimes tens of thousands!

To build the map, we look at all the IP addresses of meebo users IMing over the past 15 minutes and use a database to locate the users, or at least their ISPs, as accurately as possible. Then we plot the points with varying intensity on the map in that spot using GMT, a mapping toolkit.</quote>

Not only can you look at median income, population density, but also men and women availability, as well as their income level, aka sugah mama and sugah daddy maps.

Windows Live Local - Virtual Earth Technology Preview

This is disappointing. I have the same speed with walk/sport car/ or race car. If I can walk/drive over rooftops and walls, at least let me take my zoom zoom for a ride!

If you typed in "windows local live" in google, the fourth ad is "Hi, I'm Sarah, 22 & Hot". The annoying thing about Windows local live is that it takes me to a "no javascript" page, and there are instructions on how to enable javascript, but only on IE. As James would say: Poo poo face!

As a service though, Windows Live Local is pretty spiffy
