Some call it the party of the year! Emerald City Swank features silent and live auctions, a raffle, dancing, tasty dinner, flowing wine and spirited competition.
Why? To raise money to support Seattle Works! We're working hard every day to inform, connect and inspire people in their 20s and 30s to take action. If you want to live in a community with active volunteers, informed citizens, savvy charitable donors and community leaders who know each other and work together, then you want to be at this event raising your paddle!

Yeah! No sleep tonight!
Quoted: Skies are expected to be clear in the Seattle area during the eclipse.
There's no need to leave the city to see the event, said Tim McKechnie of the Seattle Astronomical Society. The moon will be due south, about 45 degrees above the horizon, when the partial eclipse starts at 1:51 a.m. The total eclipse starts at 2:52 a.m. and ends at 4:22 a.m. The partial eclipse ends at 5:24 a.m.

:(
Quoted:Sadly, Takohachi is closing for good on June 2. The owner is retiring and, according to one of the many charming and carefully hand-lettered signs that hang on the restaurant’s walls, a new Japanese restaurant will open in the spot on 610 S Jackson later this summer. I have no idea what that place will be like; I can only hope it will retain the tall, wooden booths and simplicity and comfort of its former occupant’s food.

Quoted: The screening is free and open to the public. Tickets and reservations are not required. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. Limited free parking is available at the branch.
"American Chai" (MPAA rating: R) is a funny, heartfelt, coming-of-age story about an Indian American college boy, Sureel, who can't tell his traditional immigrant parents that he wants to become a musician, not a doctor. The film was directed by Anurag Mehta.
A representative from Tasveer will moderate a post-film discussion. Tasveer is a Northwest nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting independent South Asian cinema.
The screening is the first of three in a South Asian film series presented as part of the Library's Seattle Reads series of programs. A complete schedule of Seattle Reads programs is available on the Library Web site.
