Hopefully, Human Services just earned themselves a huge cut in the soon-to-be-announced budget. And I say this as someone who usually loves big, regulatory government.
Quoted: IRVING TOWNSHIP (AP) — A southwest Michigan woman has been told that she's in danger of being arrested if she continues to watch her neighbors' children each morning before they get on the school bus.
Quoted: State law says no one may care for unrelated children in their home for more than four weeks a year unless they're licensed.

Well said, Lansing State Journal.

Everything about this story is absolutely absurd...

Third Coast beer drama. Hopefully it will end well for Bell's and Chicago beer lovers. BTW, stop by the Hop Leaf (mentioned in the story) if you're ever in Andersonville.
Quoted: (Crain’s) — A year after pulling its beers from Chicago taps and liquor stores, Bell’s Brewery Inc. is making plans for a return.
Quoted: “We know we’re going to get sued, so we’re just sticking our toes in the water with a couple of people who are willing to get in the water with us,” Mr. Bell says.

I saw this story on BBC and didn't realize that MSU was involved in the discovery. Maybe the law college can work Dr. Crippen into its "Innocents" display of inmates exonerated by DNA evidence.
Quoted: Loaded with enough sordid details and twists to eventually fuel more than 40 books and several movies, this London case is second only to Jack the Ripper in its sensational notoriety.

Heads up, Michiganders.

Who are you going to trust, the Greatest American Lawyer or the bloc of neocons appointed by John Engler to the MI Supreme Court? I know a trustworthy source when I see one.
That CNN article I dotted last week seems to be generating some dialogue in the legal community...
Quoted: There is little question that average citizens don’t pay much attention to third branch of government. Lawyers and many judges knows how dysfunctional the court system has become. And it is not because of jury trials. It’s because of courts and procedures and the infiltration of politicians onto the bench.

Quoted: The notion of black-robed judges as symbols of decorum and civility seems almost laughable these days in Michigan.
Liz and I went to oral arguments for the Fieger case mentioned here -
didn't realize at the time that things were so bad between the justices. Doesn't sound like they'll improve anytime soon. Embarrassing...ShareViewed: 4 Times
