Jake Peavy Will Not Accept Trade to White Sox: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

Old news, but I didn't find out until today. I wouldn't have been very worried about the Sox even if they got him, but it's nice to keep Peavy out of the AL Central.

Quoted: Rosenthal has doubts about the White Sox's ability to compete in the future, and he says that this may have been on Peavy's mind when he rejected the trade.

A Manual For The Future | Planetizen

Great idea for public schools curriculum. At the very least, an overview of city planning should be a liberal arts requirement.

Quoted: Today’s public school systems have no such manual. In fact, most students, let alone teachers, would have a difficult time explaining anything about their own city’s plan and why it is relevant to their collective future. Nonetheless, I can see the tremendous effect such a book (with accompanying lesson plans) could have on the students of today and of tomorrow.

Chicago Business News, Analysis & Articles | Bell's beer is coming back to Chicago | Crain's

Third Coast beer drama. Hopefully it will end well for Bell's and Chicago beer lovers. BTW, stop by the Hop Leaf (mentioned in the story) if you're ever in Andersonville.

Quoted: (Crain’s) — A year after pulling its beers from Chicago taps and liquor stores, Bell’s Brewery Inc. is making plans for a return.

Quoted: “We know we’re going to get sued, so we’re just sticking our toes in the water with a couple of people who are willing to get in the water with us,” Mr. Bell says.

    Cafe Laguardia

Saw Kruse's latest and thought I'd share this too. As the website promises, Mr. Laguardia is indeed a warm host. The food is also amazing, but watch for Bucktown parents pushing super-strollers down the sidewalk and demanding that diners get out of their way.

Quoted: Cafe Laguardia is a wonderful Cuban Chicago Bucktown restaurant in Bucktown, serving Cuban cuisine and Cuban drinks in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere.

I'm a bit embarrassed to dot this show, but the "Not my Job" segment with Special (not in the Ruffalo sense of the word) Prosecutor and US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald was superb this week. And Fitzgerald almost never does interviews or public appearances, which made it even cooler.

Quoted: "This is a historic day for the City of Chicago and for the State of the Illinois," said Gov. Rod Blagojevich. "Chicago is a world-class city, a great sports town and the perfect place to host the Olympics."

My favorite magazine is … Stop Smiling. By Jack Shafer - Slate Magazine

Quoted: Once upon a time my night table groaned from the weight of the magazines I piled onto it: weeklies, monthlies, quarterlies, and one-offs; U.S. and international; men's magazines, political rags, the newsweeklies, and all the various city, computer, sports,

Quoted: Had the Web replaced my magazine habit?
