    Today's Pictures: Along the Danube

I checked Slate for the first time in years today and was delighted to find photos of the Danube, allowing me to continue my nostalgic Budapest dotting.

Quick reminder: If you're ever in a hotel lobby and they start to play 'The Blue Danube Waltz,' get the hell out...that waltz means that they need to evacuate the building

Budapest Sun Online - America's porcine taste invasion

For you pork enthusiasts out there on the west coast...

Quoted: A Spokane, Washington-based couple have imported Hungarian Mangalica pigs to the States in a bid to introduce the American palette to superior quality meat.

    Spaceman awarded

    Actual headline...

Dr. Leo Spaceman apparently joins Stephen Colbert among Americans recently honored in Hungary.

And in real life, this is a follow up to my dot a while back about cell phone calls from space and my desire to someday receive such a call, or place one.

    A Heck of a Long-Distance Calling Plan - washingtonpost.com

I want a call from space if any of you ever vacation there. Andras Simonyi is, of course, more famous for being one of Stephen Colbert's most charming guests.

Quoted: Andras Simonyi, the ambassador from Hungary, was walking down Massachusetts Avenue Saturday when his cellphone rang. "Hi Andras," said the caller, "this is Charles." As in Charles Simonyi -- the Hungarian American billionaire who bought a seat on a Russian rocket. He was calling from the international space station.

Ah, the Tropicana. In my day, we were happy with blackjack.

Quoted: “For me, poker is an intellectual game,” said Texas Hold’em star Richard Tóth, 27, talking at Tropicana after he dropped out of the Budapest Poker Open tournament – the most important event of its kind in Hungary, in which the winner takes home Ft12.5m ($64,300).

Alsace surrenders "Tokay" label to Hungary - Yahoo! News

I have much love for Alsace, but the French name-hoarders had no real ground to stand on here. (Finally, the French acquiesce something. I'm tired of their international bullying...)

BTW, Derek, thanks for the heads up on the photos. I don't think it's too difficult to figure out - I just hadn't noticed.

Quoted: The French wine-growing area of Alsace officially surrendered to Hungary the label Tokay, which has been used for several hundred years to designate a local variety of white.
