Gathering more than just geo -locational data it is possible to accurately infer relationships and context that can add value to search and other web services.

Intent is the sum of action and context. This is why the mobile web is the next big breakthrough - because mobility and geo-location add a whole new layer of context to our interaction with the web. Even timing becomes more valuable as an interpretation factor when mobility is factored in.

So EMC has found a route to the consumer market. Mozy is a favorite of mine. Their service is cost effective and although there is a limited 2GB free option I have found that restores happen much more quickly as a paying customer.
This acquisitin is great news for safeguarding our digital history. Thanks to Mozy for building a great service!

Bernard Moon provides a great assessment of Social Networks and their "Fad-ish" nature.
Social networks do need to become agnostic and open. We, the customer, are in charge. We are "User" in User Generated that makes the site attractive. Our information is our own and we should not have to slavishly re-enter our relationships and profile when we skip to the next emergent network.
