Looks like there's a decent possibility that Putin will be back officially running Russia at some point in the future.
Quoted: Fresh doubt was cast today on the future of Dmitri Medvedev as Russia's President after a report suggested that he could step down next year to pave the way for the return of Vladimir Putin.

How Palin can say, "I've been cleared of 'any hint of unethical activity'" with a straight face is beyond me. Bold lies to the public. Will somebody please call her out on this?

A really interesting article on Obama's tax plan and how he has re-defined "tax cut" beyond the obvious meaning. There appear to be some real problems with his approach.
Quoted: For the Obama Democrats, a tax cut is no longer letting you keep more of what you earn. In their lexicon, a tax cut includes tens of billions of dollars in government handouts that are disguised by the phrase "tax credit."

Christopher Hitchens outline his thoughts on voting for Obama. In a nutshell, he's over-rated but McCain has shown erratic judgment (especially in his selection of Palin as a VP pick) and recent dishonesty. McCain doesn't appear to be learning much from his errors.

I'm actually a bit surprised to find the conservative "Economist" coming down on the side of Barack Obama and his plans for the economy.

Quoted: Until Sarah Palin agrees to a full and open press conference, she should not even be considered as a possible vice-president of the United States. What has been going on with her and access to her is an outrage to democratic discourse and the entire electoral system.

You must be Eric's friend before you can comment on this Fave.Probably one of my favorite essays ever, and one of the most important essays ever written about modern English. I think it's pretty fascinating the Orwell wrote about the inherent political nature of language (both here, and, especially, in 1984) in the late 40s, but people basically disregarded it for 60 years. In my mind, George Lakoff's work with the concept of frames attempts to pick up where Orwell left off.
