An older post from Tim O'Reilly on the lifecycle from self-publisher to aggregate publisher. An interesting exploration of the transition from "free" to "not free" and the balancing act the transition requires.
Quoted: What this evolution illustrates is that publishers will not go away, but that they cannot be complacent. Publishers must serve the values of both authors and readers. If they try to enforce an artificial scarcity, charge prices that are too high or otherwise violate the norms of their target community, they will encourage that community to self-organize, or new competitors will emerge who are better attuned to the values of the community.

Quoted: Gmail's good, but it could be better. We've featured several Greasemonkey scripts that enhance Gmail in lots of different ways - like adding saved searches, attachment icons, label colors, keyboard macros, a filter assistant and right-click conversation previews. But not everyone wants to install Greasemonkey and hunt down all those scripts.
To save you the time, I've compiled the best Greasemonkey scripts for Gmail into one handy Firefox extension, called Better Gmail. After the jump, put your Gmail on steroids with Better Gmail.

I'm pretty excited about this. Sun Microsystems has joined the effort by assigning a couple developers to help port OpenOffice to the Mac.

I want to find a cool image to put one of these up tomorrow. Rasterbator is a free app that lets you upload a photo, blow it up, and print as multiple pages of PDF so that you can string them together and put them on your wall.

Even though I love it, I always feel like I'm using only a small percentage of its capabilities. This link is to a page with many video tutorials. I should be wizard at this in no time!

Review of the web-based mindmapping software out there. Has anyone tried the free java app FreeMind? I'm interested in trying one of these things out and Free sounds pretty good.

Tagging plugins for Wordpress. These look like all that I need and they piggy-back on the Wordpress Categories functionality. Now I'm just off to see why/how to upgrade to the newest version of wordpress.
