Interesting post on how sitemaps impact the crawlers from Google and Yahoo. It's pretty incredible how fast Google is...
Quoted: Like any other person out there, I fall into habits, good and bad. Recently while working on a client’s website, I created a Sitemap and submitted it to the search engines, like I always do. I started to think if this really helps the site out and what’s the effect when I submit a Sitemap on the site.

Yahoo seems to be moving forward in any direction which can scare the bejeezus out of Microsoft. This move, however, I actually adore and think is wonderful. Search Monkey especially is a great idea.

Let me translate the letter Ballmer just sent to the Yahoo Board of Directors:
"Bitches. I've given you two months. Step up or prepare to be DOOMED."
Quoted: Microsoft (MSFT) struck while yesterday's propaganda campaign was hot, issuing a direct ultimatum to Yahoo (YHOO): The ultimatum came in the form of a letter from Steve Ballmer to Yahoo's board, and the message was this: Sign merger agreement in three weeks, or we will cut bid and go directly to shareholders.

I agree with Mark Cuban on this one. Yahoo needs to sell to Microsoft to make the most of its promise to employees and investors. The buyout offer is really strong.

Yahoo had a big executive revival event the other day ith a keynote by Steve Jobs.
Quoted: What do you do when you want to inject a little inspiration into a company that needs a lot of it? Do you hold an all-day meeting of top execs where you actually outline specific goals and exhibit better leadership? Do you admit your corporate culture is a little weak and promise to focus on strengthening it? Do you trot out all the senior execs and let them talk about their concrete plans (and, better still, actually prepare them to deliver their spiel with some level of quality)? Do you do some post-lunch touchy-feely group exercises to get people talking? Best of all, if you really want to send things over the top, do you bring out an icon so beloved as to give goosebumps to explain to the troops how he managed to turn his once-beleaguered and now-soaring company around?

A recap of how Yahoo lost the search mantle, handed it to Google, and the lingering question "is it too late to change?"

You must be Eric's friend before you can comment on this Fave. The three objectives (portal, ads, platform) seem clearly articulated and well thought out. The only criticism I'd have is that the objectives are not necessarily that different from those of Google, MSN/Live, or even Facebook. But, that's okay. Yahoo needs to believe that it can out-execute the others and leverage existing assets to ultimately claim a larger percentage of the pie.
For the most part, I agree, but that's because Google has a good strategy. They're quite open to external developers. IMO, Yahoo was at risk of irrelevance - too many walled gardens. I'm glad to see that they're learning lessons from some of the successful properties, like flickr, and opening up APIs, making that a focus. Where I think they're different is in their attempt to be the starting point for users. Google's stated goal is to organize the world's information. Yahoo seems to want to be a little more publishing centric and to give you editorialized startpages. We'll see. I think there's definitely room for multiple successful parties in multiple niches.
Better late than never. The proof will be in the implementation.
