Behind the scenes on the famous "1984" commercial by Apple. It's a 3 minute behind the scenes look followed by the final cut of the commercial. I think this still must be one of the most effective commercials ever, still garnering viewers and describing the positioning of Apple.

You should watch this just for the silly '80s music.

Quoted: This is a rare video clip I restored, which shows 'behind the scenes' of Apple's famous 1984 commercial. Enjoy this trip back in time -- ...

Reason Magazine - Tony the Nanny

I had no idea that Britain under Tony Blair has become such a surveillance state. 5 million CCTV cameras. Good morning, Big Brother!

Quoted: So in Blair’s Britain we are spied on constantly; we’re nannied everywhere from the pub to the soccer stadium; we can be reprimanded and have our freedom of movement and association restricted on the say-so of a local official. Dear reader, we Britons are no longer free. Instead we live in a permanent state of parole, where we must walk, talk and act in a certain way or risk having our collars felt by a CCTV spy, a cop or a council official.

An inventive animate video detailing the continued move towards "bug brother" surveillance. Very well done.

New Scientist Breaking News - ‘Big Brother’ eyes make us act more honestly

They should put these near the sinks in the mens' public restrooms.

Quoted: In weeks with eyes on the list, staff paid 2.76 times as much for their drinks as in weeks with flowers. “Frankly we were staggered by the size of the effect,” Gilbert Roberts, one of the researchers, told New Scientist.

    AlterNet: Connect the Dots

This is an interesting article claiming that all color copies include some encoded information (via small yellow dots) to help track counterfeiters and potentially political activists and extremists. This is very disturbing if it's true. Interestinly, the author's signature at the bottom indicates that she prefers "blue dots."
