McSweeney's Internet Tendency: Unused Audio Commentary By Howard Zinn & Noam Chomsky, Recorded Summer 2002, for The Fellowship of the Ring Platinum Series Extended Edition DVD, Part One

I may be a dork but I think that this is really funny. Somebody at McSweeney's wrote up a fictionalized audio commentary (expunged from the production release of the DVD - obviously!) between Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky as they watch the film.

Seed: Noam Chomsky + Robert Trivers

A great conversation between Noam Chomsky and Rober Trivers about deceit and self-deception, especially how they are embodied in politics and international policy.

Quoted: In the 1970s, a Harvard class taught by evolutionary biologist Robert Trivers ignited a controversy that would escalate into the "sociobiology wars." His papers provided a Darwinian basis for understanding complex human activities and relationships. Across town at MIT, revolutionary linguist Noam Chomsky had earned a reputation as a leading opponent of the Vietnam War. Throughout those pivotal years, and in the following decades, the two explored similar ideas from different perspectives. Long aware of each other's work, they had never met until a couple of months ago, when they sat down to compare notes on some common interests: deceit and self-deception.
