Unhappy Meals - Michael Pollan - New York Times

I didn't see this article on nutritionism from Michael Pollan last year. I wish I had. Speaking in a no-nonsense style, he tells us just how little scientific knowledge of food that we have.

Quoted: The story of how basic questions about what to eat got so complicated reveals a great deal about the institutional imperatives of the food industry, nutritional science and journalism.

Seth's Blog: When the story doesn't match

Holy crap. A SINGLE Large Java Frappuccino has 29 packets of sugar and the equivalent of 11 creamers?! Not that I drink those, mind you, but isn't that justa touch overkill?

So says Seth Godin. Don, can you confirm?

Obesity epidemic 'engulfing the entire world' - health - 10 September 2006 - New Scientist

It's one thing to have obese adults, it's another thing completely to have 22 MILLION obese children. This points to a huge gap in understanding of nutrition and diet. I don't think I ever really ingrained any dietary habits from school. I wonder how we can do a better job making sure that everyone can balance their food intake a bit more?

Quoted: The world's overweight people now outnumber the undernourished, according to Paul Zimmet, in his speech to the International Congress on Obesity

Amazon.com: Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy: The Harvard Medical School Guide to Healthy Eating: Books

Jeff (jeffreystaylor on Blue.Us) has recommended that I read this book. He tried to find his copy unsuccesfully last night but we're about to truck down to Powell's right now.
