McMansions in default are contributing to an exodus from suburbia back to the city. Some suburban developments are seeing high crime as their owners flee for safer environs and healthier urban lifestyles (people walk in the cities). What happens next?
Quoted: The subprime crisis is just the tip of the iceberg. Fundamental changes in American life may turn today’s McMansions into tomorrow’s tenements.

Beautiful pre-fab homes. Would be great on vacation property.

Jay Shafer lives in a 96 square foot dream house.
Quoted: "Our society's been based on excess for so long, it's still a somewhat novel idea to live simply," he said. At 42, Shafer has a quiet, boyish presence and the unclouded brow of a man content with his choices. But he's also someone who obviously has gone to great lengths to live life according to his own principles -- an intensity seems to flicker in his eyes and in the humility of his explanations. You won't find much in the way of ranting about greed and gluttony. Though he does sometimes utter words like "excess," he maintains it's not for him to judge the needs of others.

Deb responded to my earlyier shipping container cabin Dot with this link on the subject. It's pretty interesting in that the US is ending up with a surplus of the containers due to trade deficits. It turns out that it's cheaper to create new containers than to ship the empties back to China. You can therefore pick them up inexpensively here and customize to you heart's content....
Quoted: Take out the imported goods and move in the kids, architects and manufacturers look to reusing steel shipping containers for housing and other construction projects.
