Nicholas Negroponte speaking at TED about the OLPC project.

    Quoted: TED Talks
Nicholas Negroponte lays out the details of his nonprofit One Laptop Per Child project. Speaking just days after relinquishing his post as director of the MIT Media Lab, he announces that he'll pursue this venture for the rest of his life. He takes us inside the strategy for building the "$100 laptop," and explains why and how the project plans to launch "at scale," with millions of units distributed in the first seven countries. "This is not a laptop project; it's an education project," he says.

Contact One Laptop Per Child >>

Ultra-thin and ulra-light notebook coming before the end of the year - sources | MacScoop

I've been wondering what Mac was going to do to replace the 12" Macbook Pro that they removed from their line last year. That model was always one of my favorites and everyone I know that has owned one has absolutely loved it. I hope this rumor about a newer, ultra-mobile Mac is true.

    Portégé R500 - Toshiba

This new Toshiba Laptop looks amazingly slick. .77 inches thick (the thinnest available), 1.72 lbs., with some interesting indoor/outdoor screen functionality. I like it.

New Samsung Notebook Replaces Hard Drive With Flash

See you later, hard drives! Bring on flash! (Disclaimer: I know were not there yet but the entry into the market of the first commercial machines without hard drives is quite prescient.)

Quoted: Samsung Electronics said Tuesday that it will launch two mobile computers in early June that will do away with hard drives altogether, replacing them with 32 gigabytes of NAND flash memory. The notebooks will be the first to use flash memory as the main storage device.

Everything old is new again. They report this as if it is groundbreaking. I used to have an old Amiga 500 that had the same basic idea...

I love the lifestyl shots on this page though. Hilarious.
