Apparently the R. Kelly kiddie porn trial is having some issues getting people onto the jury. The Chicago Tribune looks at the 12 ways you can get dismissed from this high profile trial. Some of them, like the one where the guy states that R.Kelly may be in league with the Taliban and responsible for 9/11 are patently, er, ludicris...

This judge should be disbarred and forced to pay the cost of the Chung defense team. If there is such a thing as spurious law suits, this is it.
Quoted: Sometimes something you take to a dry cleaner doesn't come back. An administrative hearings judge in Washington, D.C., is suing his dry cleaner for millions over a pair of pants. Sixty-five million, to be exact.

An announcement: "Please keep fighting for our rights to freedom of speech, just make sure not to use it."
Quoted: The U.S. Army has ordered soldiers to stop posting to blogs or sending personal e-mail messages, without first clearing the content with a superior officer, Wired News has learned. The directive, issued April 19, is the sharpest restriction on troops' online activities since the start of the Iraq war. And it could mean the end of military blogs, observers say.

Quoted: "The reputation of the Army is maintained on many fronts, and no one fights harder on its behalf than our young soldiers. We must allow them access to the fight," Robbins wrote. "To silence the most credible voices -- those at the spear's edge -- and to disallow them this function is to handicap ourselves on a vital, very real battlefield."

As you may or may not know, Cisco is suing Apple for infringment upon the iPhone trademark. This blog post by Cisco PR strikes a delicate tone on the issue. I think it was really well done - clear, open, and most likely honest. It is unfortunate that Apple apparently decided to "ask forgiveness later" on this issue.
It'll be interesting to see if there is any open dialog between the two companies on this in the coming weeks or if it is purely in the hands of the lawyers from here on out.

Great blog. Horrible story. Man sells bikes on Craigslist. Gets suspicious check. Asks B of A to check if it is indeed valid. Gets arrested. Pays $14k in legal fees. Receives no recompense form B of A.
There's a bit of a protest over this going on. It seems a lot of people are closing their accounts.

Wow. Michael Arrington and crew received a cease and desist letter from YouTube's attorneys. I read the YouTube agreement and their letter to Michael and I agree with Michael's interpretation. The letter refers to things which are not in the terms of use on YouTube's site. I hope Michael's attorney agrees as well.

I had never read this blog before but I was pointed here by Om Malik's blog. This is a post on the "self-owned internet" and its "ownership." My favorite quote is below:
Quoted: The relationship between the notes, rather than the notes themselves, is powerful in open networks. It is these relationships that create value.

A scathing analysis of all the anti-shareholder actions Jerry Yang has taken in the last few months. I think Joe Nocera is right on here - when your company goes public, you can no longer treat it as your private plaything. Neither can it be run for the benefit of the employees....it's the owners of the company, the shareholders, who's interests must be paramount.
Arrogantly, Mr. Yang appears to ignore this fact, and is now being sued by large shareholders, pension funds, and Carl Icahn.
How can he NOT be forced to step down (much less cost Yahoo many tens of millions in defending against these suits)?
1 FaverViewed: 4 TimesQuoted: Since Yahoo went public in 1996, the company has had new owners — its shareholders — but it is unclear whether Jerry Yang, the company’s co-founder and chief executive, knows this.

A public experiment that was better in theory than in practice: "In the end, the restrooms, installed in early 2004, had become so filthy, so overrun with drug abusers and prostitutes, that although use was free of charge, even some of the city’s most destitute people refused to step inside them."
1 FaverViewed: 3 TimesQuoted: After spending $5 million, Seattle officials decided to close the city’s five automated public toilets, which had become filthy and costly.
