Apple’s Lesson for Sony’s Stores: Just Connect - New York Times

Go to the mob scene known as the Apple Store in University Village, Seattle, on any weekend. Then, walk across the parking lot to Sony Style. You will see the difference. The Apple Store is vibrant and attentive. You can schedule time at the Genius Bar or get assistance from any terminal in the building. Sony? I walked through there for 5-7 minutes and got no help whatsoever. When I asked a guy if I could use the Sony Reader on a Mac, he not only wasn't knowledgeable, he didn't offer to help me find out. Booo!

Quoted: Apple has made retail seem ridiculously easy. But why hasn’t the Windows side of the personal computer business figured it out?

This is my laptop stand. It's a bit more expensive than I remembered (I may have gotten mine on clearance) but it is a pretty cheap and effective way to turn your laptop into a full workstation when working for extended periods or ina consistent location. The availabilty of usb ports is a really nice feature. I use it for keeping my printer plugged in and for a bluetooth adapter (used for wireless keyboard and mouse).

I just bought me the top-end one of these bad boys yesterday. I had almsot forgotten how nice it was to work on a full-sized system.

I added an extra memory card to get the RAM up to 1 gig but that's about it so far. It was pretty easy to transfer everything off of my old machine, I just attached a firewire cable between my machines and booted the old one in target mode (by pressing "T" whil it was starting). I did a full copy and now everything is on my new machine.
