Quoted: There has never been a moment when we were not winning in Iraq. Victory has followed victory, from "Mission Accomplished" to the purple fingers of the Iraqi election to, most recently, President Bush's meeting at Camp Cupcake in Anbar province with Abdul-Sattar Abu Risha, the Sunni leader of the group Anbar Awakening (who was assassinated a week later). Turning point has followed turning point, from Bush's proclamation two years ago of his "National Strategy for Victory in Iraq" to his announcement last week of his "Return on Success."

I have not seen it yet, but this PBS documentary is available for viewing on the web. It chronicles the failures of the mainstream press to challenge or even question the statements of the Bush administration in the runup to the Iraq war. Most interestingly, it apparently names names (with evidence) of a number of these journalists, beyond the "usual suspects" like Fox News and Judith Miller.

Alternate Universe: Gore Won in 2000
Quoted: In the last six years we have been able to stop global warming. No one could have predicted the negative results of this. Glaciers that once were melting are now on the attack. As you know, these renegade glaciers have already captured parts of upper Michigan and northern Maine. But I assure you: we will not let the glaciers win.

New Seymour Hersh article on Israel-Lebanon War
Quoted: One intercept was of a meeting in late May of the Hamas political and military leadership, with Meshal participating by telephone. “Hamas believed the call from Damascus was scrambled, but Israel had broken the code,” the consultant said. For almost a year before its victory in the Palestinian elections in January, Hamas had curtailed its terrorist activities. In the late May intercepted conversation, the consultant told me, the Hamas leadership said that “they got no benefit from it, and were losing standing among the Palestinian population.” The conclusion, he said, was “ ‘Let’s go back into the terror business and then try and wrestle concessions from the Israeli government.’ ” The consultant told me that the U.S. and Israel agreed that if the Hamas leadership did so, and if Nasrallah backed them up, there should be “a full-scale response.”

Oops, guess FOX didn't expect this kind of interview. Hmm, news networks conveniently leave out the fact that Georgia actually invaded S. Ossetia before the Russians.
