Maine school to offer contraceptives - Yahoo! News

Listen, children and like stupid little animals that cannot be taught to control their urges, so we have no other choice.
Oh wait... we do? What could that be? Educate them about abstinence? No that is not a good idea, lets give out condoms instead. What do you mean its worked

Quoted: After an outbreak of pregnancies among middle school girls, education officials in this city have decided to allow allow one school's health center to make birth control pills available to girls as young as 11.

Of course the idea of middle school children on birth control is insane and sad, but you have to be realistic here. It's a necessary evil. The only thing worse than middle schoolers having sex is pregnant middle schoolers. Yes, abstinence is ideal, but guess what -- not every family in America includes a responsible, smart set of TWO parents who both graduated from an expensive, white bread, Christian college and actually give a f*** what their kids are doing between 3pm and 6pm each day. Or, perhaps they do care, but they don't have the LUXURY of being around. If 12 year olds from these kinds of families get pregnant and have kids and keep them -- how do you think those kids are going to turn out? Let's keep the cycle of poor, single mom run households going, shall we?

No solution "works", period. Offering contraceptives does not solve the problem, nor does abstinence education. However, both are likely to provide marginal gains. Better together, by the numbers. It's not either/or.
