I can't wait to see this film! It looks amazing.

Quoted: Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro delivers a unique, richly imagined epic with PAN’S LABYRINTH, a gothic fairytale set against the postwar repression of Franco’s Spain. Harnessing the formal characteristics of classic folklore to a 20th Century landscape, del Toro delivers a timeless tale of good and evil, bravery and sacrifice, love and loss.

I hope this actually gets made!
Quoted: Lerner stated: "I am thrilled to be producing 'Red Sonya.' Few other properties are as visually exciting and action-packed. Once again, Randy and George have found a winner."

Just read that Nigerian cinema is the 3rd fastest growing in the world. First being the U.S., second being India. Interesting.
Quoted: Many foreign and local critics have criticized Nollywood for trite plots, poor dialogue, terrible sound, and poor production values. Some worry that the prevalence of witchcraft and violence in the movies may encourage the worst stereotypes about Africans. Yet in just 13 years, Nollywood has grown from nothing into a US$250 million-a-year industry that employs thousands of people. The Nollywood phenomenon was made possible by two main ingredients: Nigerian entrepreneurship and digital technology.

Great article. Heavily stressed the themes in Hideo Nakata's work but touches on a few very interesting technical choices that he uses to bring the scare-factor into his films.
Quoted: In a nutshell, the roots of J-horror twine through the 2,000-year history of Japanese culture and traditions.

Does Gene Hackman never age? I hesitate in giving this four stars. I couldn't get into it, but it was a good film. My problem with it was the sound... it was a little over the top. It had this great piano number that played repeatedly throughout the film but it was subdued by incessant echoes and unidentifiable sounds that got tiring. With that said, it is a film about sound :P So maybe the fine art of sound design is lost on me.
Synopsis: A surveillance professional is hired to record a conversation between two people having an affair. (…it is an interesting story… really the only reason I kept watching.)

This most recent DVD that I received seemed all right until I was about 15 minutes into it and realized that the subtitles didn't always pop up when the characters were speaking... Nevertheless the director did a great job capturing the story visually, so there were only a few moments when it became frustrating for me.
This film is set in 1947 India and takes a snippet out of the lives of a community of friends amidst the partition of India. It started out beautifully. (A little girl slams a plate to the ground ultimately setting up the theme of the entire movie-division of a whole)... but I thought it ended a little abruptly (I wanted to know what ultimately happened to the characters.)
The overall quality of the film seemed low budget, which I wasn’t expecting, but I think it was done well despite this. I may have given this 5 stars if I caught all the dialogue… I’ll have to try and get my hands on a better copy.
Note:
The director is a woman!
It’s the second film in a trilogy. Fire, Earth, Water.
It was (is still?) banned in India and Pakistan.Quoted: Earth - Cast, Crew, Reviews, Plot Summary, Comments, Discussion, Taglines, Trailers, Posters, Photos, Showtimes, Link to Official Site, Fan Sites

Dreamworks paid $2 million, just for the rights to remake this film. Apparently it's just about to go into production... I wonder who's going to be in it...
