This is an unusual dot for me, for two reasons. One, I don't believe in Indian buffet food...or any buffet food for that matter. I think it's the devil's work...food should never be streamlined...and two, I try not to dot watering holes because I really don't think any of my friends need any more encouragement to drink. With that said this entirely too sterile restaurant has a killer buffet. I was recently forced to eat here and I thoroughly enjoyed it. What's really interesting about this place is that hidden in the back of this attempted fine-dine establishment is the nastiest, grimiest, throw-back to the early 80's bar that I've been to in a long time. The drinks are ridiculously cheap. $3.00 for a rum and coke! and really stiff. 1 drink = 3. On top of that the people, employees and patrons alike, are a lot of fun. Everytime I've been there I've ended up table hopping by the end of the night. Hanging out with perfect strangers. (I think the small space is just condusive to socialization.) The last time I was there I met a gaggle of self proclaimed rappers (who were not black). I learned a lot about the West Seattle Hip-Hop lifestyle...hoho. Anyway, this is one of my favorite hidden spots to drink...and for the ladies, despite the fact that the bar is a dump, the bathrooms are a part of the restaurant, so they are supa' nice!! A plus for those who have to squat.

Went here for dinner last night. It's the second time I've eaten here. Both times the waite staff were very nice, but completely overwhelmed and sloooow. They also weren't very knowledgeable about what they were serving. The sushi was pretty good. I'd say one of the better places to go in Seattle but not the best. My newest snobby concern with rolls is the consistency of the rice and here it was done almost perfectly. I'd say this is a recommend if you are in the neighborhood and have time to spend. Otherwise, I'd spend a little more scratch and go to Nijo's which, so far, has provided the best sushi I've had in Seattle.

Hula Grill Kaanapali
Award-Winning Oceanfront Dining at its Best
Located at Whalers Village on famous Kaanapali Beach, Hula Gril Kaanapalil features award-winning oceanfront dining at its best.Reminiscent of a 1930s Hawaiian beach house, Hula Grill Kaanapali features a nostalgic setting characteristic of the style conceived by renowned island architect C.W. Dickey. Its beachfront location combined with its warm koa wood walls, collection of hula girl figurines, antique koa canoes and Hawaiian memorabilia evoke memories of a more romantic Hawaii.
Adding to the feeling of an old Hawaiian home is Hula Grill Kaanapali's own private beach, the Barefoot Bar, where diners sit with their toes in the sand at tables placed beneath palm-thatched umbrellas.
