    Report: Net neutrality could kill 'e-health' plans

    Quoted: ISP trade group argues antidiscrimination mandates could prevent doctors from taking full advantage of digitized health care innovations. Net neutrality advocates disagree.

    Critics say that regulations proposed recently could hinder efforts to digitize the health care system. An Internet industry group leader said that making exceptions to net neutrality rules for health information would not work.

    Web 2.0’s upside capped?

    Quoted: The report dubbed "A Typology of Information and Communication Technology Users (PDF, Techmeme discussion)" reveals that 31 percent of Americans are "Elite Tech Users." The report divides these elites into
    * omnivores (8 percent), who have the most gadgets and "voraciously" participate in Web 2.0-ish activities;
    * connectors (7 percent), who are happy with information and communications services;
    * lackluster veterans (8 percent), who are down on cell phones and high on the Internet; and
    * productivity enhancers (8 percent), who think IT matters a lot.

    A full 49 percent of America has "few technology assets." This crowd doesn't Twitter, text message or finds technology annoying. (This could be viewed as good or bad. Good: These people may actually know how to converse face to face. Bad: They are on the short end of the digital divide.)

    The Corner Office » Facebook Proves a Point

    Quoted: Facebook is a wonderful example of the next wave of blockbuster new Web apps. Didn’t realize that though until I read Andy Kessler’s interview with 22 year old Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who is reputed to have already turned down a billion dollar plus offer for the site from Yahoo!

    What’s the Most Secure OS? Surprise! It’s Windows. (Well, sort of.)

    Quoted: "Over the past two reporting periods, Symantec has observed a fundamental shift in Internet security activity. The current threat environment is characterized by an increase in data theft and data leakage, and the creation of malicious code that targets specific organizations for information that can be used forfinancial gain."

    Here's a quick look at a few of the relevant numbers; see what you make of them:
    - Windows: 12 severe threats; 39 vulnerabilities fixed (turn-around average of 21 days)
    - Red Hat Linux: 2 critical thrats; 208 vulnerabilities fixed (turn-around average of 58 days)
    - Mac OS X: 1 servere threat; 43 vulnerabilities fixed (turn-around average of 66 days)

    Microsoft is currently the best performing company when it comes to the speed of fixing vulnerabilities in a major OS (Microsoft also mainly sticks to a regular monthly security patch release, with only an occasional mid-month release in extreme cases).

    A few more interesting facts:
    - 77% of all Web browser attacks were aimed at Internet Explorer (the biggest target obviously, so no surprise there).
    - SPAM now makes up about 59% of all email traffic and 65% of that is in English
